Deep Work: The Rarest Skill (Part 1)
Two designers, one deadline — and the rare skill that decides who wins.

There is a book called "Deep Work," written by an American author. The book says there are two kinds of work in the world. The first kind is shallow work: replying to messages, sending emails, sitting in meetings. This kind of work is easy — anyone can do it.
The second kind is deep work: putting all your attention on one hard thing. This kind of work is hard, and it is becoming rarer and rarer. Why is it rare? Because our phones are always calling us. The author says: the people who can still focus will win the future. Let's look at the story of two designers.
Xiao Ma and Xiao Lin work at the same company. That month they were given the same task, with two weeks to finish. Xiao Ma wanted everyone to think he was fast.
He answered every single message instantly. His day was cut into dozens of pieces, each one tiny. Whatever he didn't finish by day, he had to do at night. Two weeks later he was exhausted, and what he produced was mediocre. Xiao Lin's approach was completely different.
He told everyone, "For the next three mornings, please don't come looking for me." Every morning he turned off his phone and worked quietly alone for three hours. Only in the afternoon did he answer messages and attend meetings. After three mornings, his design was finished — fresh and excellent. The boss looked at both of their work and said only one sentence:
This is the difference between focus and no focus." Many people can answer messages; few people can focus. The rare skill is the one that is worth the most.
