The Box and the Pearl
A buyer loves the pretty box so much that he gives back the pearl.

从前,有个人要卖一颗珍珠。Long ago, a man wanted to sell a pearl.珍珠很贵,也很好看。The pearl was expensive and very beautiful.
他做了一个漂亮的盒子。He made a beautiful box.盒子上有花,还有好看的颜色。The box had flowers and pretty colors on it.他把珍珠放进盒子里。He put the pearl inside the box.
一个人看到了,非常喜欢。A man saw it and liked it very much.他买下了盒子和珍珠。He bought the box and the pearl.
可是他打开盒子,把珍珠拿了出来。But then he opened the box and took the pearl out.他说:“我只要盒子,珍珠还给你。”He said, "I only want the box. Here is your pearl back."卖珍珠的人听了,不知道说什么好。The pearl seller heard this and did not know what to say.
这个成语是“买椟还珠”。This idiom is "buying the box, returning the pearl."意思是:拿了不重要的,丢了最好的。It means: taking the unimportant thing and losing the best thing.例句:你只要盒子不要礼物,这是买椟还珠啊!Example: You want the box but not the gift inside — that's buying the box and returning the pearl!
