The Engineer's Night (Part 2)

The Launch — the night before launch, Engineer Lin and Xiao Chen find a problem in the code.

林Lín工程师gōng chéng shī负责fù zé写xiěApp的de程序chéng xù。Engineer Lin is in charge of writing the app's code.

每天měi tiān早上zǎo shang，他tā喝hē一yī杯bēi咖啡kā fēi，然后rán hòu开始kāi shǐ工作gōng zuò。Every morning, he drinks a cup of coffee and gets to work.

他tā和hé同事tóng shì小陈xiǎo chén一起yī qǐ测试cè shì系统xì tǒng。He tests the system together with his colleague Xiao Chen.

上线shàng xiàn前一天qián yī tiān晚上wǎn shang，小陈xiǎo chén突然tū rán说shuō：“不好bù hǎo了le，有yǒu一个yī ge问题wèn tí！”The night before launch, Xiao Chen suddenly says: "Oh no, there's a problem!"

用户yòng hù注册zhù cè的de时候shí hou，App会huì变biàn得很de hěn慢màn。When users sign up, the app becomes very slow.

林Lín工程师gōng chéng shī很hěn冷静lěng jìng：“别bié急jí，我们wǒ men一步yī bù一步yī bù来lái。”Engineer Lin stays calm: "Don't panic. We'll take it step by step."

他们tā men检查jiǎn chá代码dài mǎ，找zhǎo了le两个liǎng gè小时xiǎo shí。They go through the code, searching for two hours.

十shí一点yī diǎn，林Lín工程师gōng chéng shī说shuō：“找到zhǎo dào了le！”At eleven, Engineer Lin says: "Found it!"

他tā小心地xiǎo xīn de改gǎi好hǎo代码dài mǎ，又yòu测试cè shì了le三次sān cì。He carefully fixes the code, then tests it three more times.

一切yī qiè正常zhèng cháng！小xiǎo陈说chén shuō：“你nǐ真zhēn厉害lì hai！”Everything works! Xiao Chen says: "You're amazing!"

林Lín工程师gōng chéng shī笑了xiào le：“明天míng tiān，就jiù看kàn大家dà jiā的de了le。”Engineer Lin smiles: "Tomorrow, it's up to everyone else."
